Poilievre announces local mayor as Brantford-Brant South byelection candidate

Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis has been appointed as the Conservative candidate for the Brantford-Brant South federal byelection.

Party leader Pierre Poilievre made the surprise announcement at a Brantford rally on Sunday afternoon, saying the riding needs “someone who can fight for Brantford-Brant South the way Larry Brock has for the last five years.”

Brock announced in August he would be resigning as the local Member of Parliament (MP) to return to his job as assistant crown attorney in Brantford.

His last day as MP was Sept. 18.
