Plan to rescue Marineland belugas sent to Canadian government

Today, a rescue feasibility plan for the beluga whales at Marineland was delivered to Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Marineland for review.

A statement from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums said the plan is driven by deep concern for the whales’ welfare. It goes on to outline whether and how it may be possible to rescue all the belugas and relocate them to accredited aquariums.

An official from Shedd Aquarium in Chicago tells CHCH News that a rescue of this scale is extraordinarily difficult – and because the plan hasn’t been approved yet, it’s too early to confirm details or timelines.
