One person has died in hospital after Thursday’s plane crash outside Vancouver International Airport.

Nine people are in hospital after the small plane crashed and burned on a road beside the airport.

Police say the two pilots are in very critical condition, while seven passengers are in serious condition.

A pedestrian is also in hospital after being struck by debris.

After taking off from Vancouver International bound for Kelowna, the pilot turned around after encountering some kind of problem.

The mayor of Richmond, Malcolm Brodie, says he’s asked the federal government several times to consider moving smaller planes to other regional airports.
