Pierre Poilievre is staying on as Conservative leader after receiving 87.4 per cent of the vote in his favour in a mandatory leadership review.
Prior to the vote, Poilievre spoke for more than 45 minutes at the national Conservative Convention in Calgary, A.B., Friday evening.
In his speech, the party leader expressed that the theme of the convention was hope. Poilievre asked attendees not to give up on him, and to give him another chance at leading the party into the next election.
Poilievre made a point to speak on Quebec and Alberta amid the ongoing separatists talks, saying the young people in those provinces should look forward to a country they can be proud of under a Conservative government.
He threw blame towards the federal Liberals regarding the rising sentiment of separatism in Quebec and Alberta.
In an effort to show unity across party lines, Poilievre talked about working with Prime Minister Mark Carney and his government to lower U.S. tariffs. U.S. President Donald Trump was never mentioned by name during his speech.
Poilievre also made it clear that the Conservative party is the party of the working class, including unionized workers, small business owners and young people.
