Pier 8 Promenade Park proposals

Competition is ramping up for the city planners chosen to submit their designs for the Promenade Park along Hamilton Harbour’s Pier 8. Today those planners got the chance to explain their vision, before the voting process gets turned over to the public.
Six design teams from all over North America are competing to see their concept turned into reality. All teams were instructed to stay under the price tag of $6.5 million.
Promenade Park is planned to be built on the north and east edges of Pier 8, it will measure around 30 meters wide. The space now is a long concrete walkway and backs onto empty lots, but the city says they’d like to see it transformed into a vibrant area where people can come to enjoy the waterfront amenities.
Full designs will be available online from August 25 to September 10 and in person at Lister Block on James St., Williams Fresh Cafe on Discovery Dr. and Evergreen Hamilton on James St.
After reviewing the public’s comments and votes, a volunteer jury of industry experts will be selecting the final design which will announced late next month. Construction is slated to begin in the spring of next year.
