Canada has it’s first gold medal after a record-setting performance by Penny Oleksiak.
The Canadian anthem has been played for the first time in Rio after the 16-year-old swimming sensation tied for gold in the women’s 100-metre freestyle. She finished in an Olympic record time of 52.70 seconds and shared the podium with American Simone Manuel.
The Toronto native is the first Canadian swimmer to win four medals in a single summer games.
The young swimmer has become an overnight inspiration to young athletes everywhere and Adam Atkinson spoke to some of them.
