Barrie MP Patrick Brown has been declared the new leader of Ontario’s Progressive Conservative party.

36-year-old Brown opened up an early lead against deputy PC leader Christine Elliott as the results were announced riding by riding.

Brown won a seat in the House of Commons in 2006 as a Conservative MP, and served on Barrie’s city council while he was a student. He doesn’t have a seat in the Ontario legislature.

Brown tweeted Saturday, “Thank you to #PCPO members for your trust. I’ll work as hard as I can for change in our Party & province. It’s time to win again. #onpoli”
