Party at Pottahawk

Plenty of sunshine for what many call the country’s largest boat party. It was a three day long party where approximately four thousand people went out on boats to Pottahawk Island near Turkey Point. While it has a reputation of getting unruly, the OPP say most people have been well behaved this weekend.

Music, dancing, booze and… more booze.

The OPP estimate that about 1,500 boats took off from various marinas around Norfolk County and set out to Pottahawk Island for the weekend.

The boats are anchored, the water is shallow, and the party seems to never stop.

The OPP have been making their presence known, on and off the water.

Police have been conducting random safety checks on boats, making sure there are enough life jackets for everyone, and that the person at the steering wheel isn’t impaired.

While the partiers enjoy themselves, the locals who live around Turkey Point have mixed reviews about the three day festivities.

OPP say a big issue they’ve had in the past is that many people hitch a ride to Pottahawk Island, and then don’t have a ride back.

The OPP did not have numbers yet as to how many tickets have been handed out this weekend but they did say that last year there was much more activity on the water, with nearly 2,200 boats, compared to this years 1,500.
