The westbound Sherman Access between the Sherman Cut and Charlton Avenue East has reopened in both directions after a car drove over the escarpment late Thursday night.
Hamilton police say a 29-year-old man and a 31-year-old man were in a parking lot around 11 p.m. when their black BMW reversed over the escarpment and crashed into a tree.
Officers say the men were able to get out of their car and a bystander called 911.

“They were very fortunate that this portion of the escarpment does have many trees that caught their fall and wedged the vehicle, making it safe for them to get out prior to police arrival,” says Const. Indy Bharaj.
Paramedics then transported the two men to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
A tow truck driver was at the scene all morning working to recover the vehicle.
The western leg of the Sherman Access reopened around noon, more than 12 hours after it was initially shut down.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
