The family of a 23-year-old Grimsby woman, paralyzed after a pool accident last summer, is struggling to bring her home.

Vallary Halladay has spent more than five months in hospital and rehab after becoming quadriplegic last summer.

Her mom Kathy has been trying to get the family home ready to accommodate Vallary and her injuries but has found government red tape is making it nearly impossible.

Kathy Halladay says a lack of communication between government agencies and rehabilitation facilities has slowed her efforts to bring her daughter home.

Kathy’s daughter Vallary became quadriplegic after diving into her boyfriend’s pool last July.

Kathy had no insurance and no benefits at work.

She is a widow with two other children and can’t afford the $90,000 renovations required to make her home livable for her daughter.

But the Ministry of Health won’t let Vallary go home until the work is done.

They have been denied all of the funding they’ve applied for so far and it’s almost time for Vallary to leave rehab.

Some money has been raised through a GoFundMe site and Vallary’s boyfriend Kirk wrote her a love song called “Can’t Imagine”  that is popular on iTunes.

CHCH reached out to the health minister to ask about funding but did not receive a response.

For more information on fundraising efforts go to Vallary’s GoFundMe page or you can donate directly to the RBC account 01752-5122999 under the name Vallary Halladay.

There will also be a benefit for Vallary on January 31st, click here for the details.
