SIU investigating overnight police shooting in Burlington

Ontario’s top police watchdog is investigating following a police shooting that occurred in Burlington overnight Tuesday.

The Special Investigations Unit confirms that Halton police were called to the area of Dynes Rd. and Prospect St. for a disturbance call where they encountered a man with a firearm.

After an interaction, an officer discharged his firearm, striking the 43-year-old man who was then arrested and taken to hospital.

A freelance reporter who was on scene tells CHCH that paramedics were called to the scene for reports of a man with a head wound earlier that night.

The man allegedly refused treatment and threatened paramedics with a gun, resulting in a standoff.

It reportedly lasted for several hours and led to a building-wide lock down initiated by police.

The investigation into the incident by the SIU is active and ongoing.
