Fire marshal called to investigate overnight blaze in Hamilton

A large structure fire broke out at a south-east Hamilton residence in the early hours of Wednesday morning, sparking an investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal.
Initial reports came in to Hamilton Fire just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday about a fire at a home at 340 Regional Rd. 20, near Third Rd. East.
Firefighters discovered a fully involved fire at a residence, limiting their entry to the building and forcing crews to tackle the blaze from the exterior only.

Over 20 units were called to the scene over the next several hours in order to transport water to the rural property.
Officers say a police presence will remain on scene and firefighters also remain to ensure the fire is completely out.

The residence is believed to have been empty at the time and no injuries have been reported.
Hamilton fire says the cause of the blaze is being investigated by the Ontario Fire Marshal.
