The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has posted a recall for organic carrots sold in various stores across the country due to E. coli contamination.
The Canada-wide recall comes days after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says one person died and several others were hospitalized in connection with an E. coli O121 outbreak linked to organic carrots.
The brands to look out for in Canada are from Compliments, PC, Bunny-Luv and Cal-Organic, with best-before dates ranging between Aug. 14 and Nov. 12.
The Canadian public is instructed not to “consume, use, sell, serve or distribute the recalled products”.
The multistate outbreak across the border has been linked to a number of brands of organic whole bagged carrots and baby carrots sold by Grimmway Farms.
Symptoms of an E. coli O121 infection can include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting.
Most people recover without treatment, but in some cases may need to be hospitalized.
