OPP issue public safety warning amid search for B.C murder suspects

Ontario Provincial Police is issuing a public safety warning after receiving several reports of possible sightings of two British Columbia murder suspects.

Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, and Kam McLeod, 19, are charged with second-degree murder in the death of Leonard Dyck, whose body was found earlier this month in northern B.C.

The pair is also suspected in the shooting of Australian Lucas Fowler and his American girlfriend Chynna Deese. Fowler and Deese were found dead on the Alaska Highway near Liard Hot Springs, B.C.

OPP continues to work with members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and has assigned an investigative team to follow up on all tips. “At this time, the OPP cannot confirm that any of these sightings are of the suspects, Bryer SCHMEGELSKY (18) and Kam McLEOD (19), nor has there been any confirmed sighting in Ontario,” said OPP in a news release.

Police are reminding residents to be vigilant of their personal safety at all times. “These two suspects are considered dangerous. If observed, do not approach them and call police immediately,” police say.

Anyone with information that could help with the investigation is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Police are also reminding citizens not to report any tips via social media because valuable time may be lost if it is a confirmed sighting.
