Police say they have arrested a driver after she was caught driving 20 kilometres in the wrong direction on the QEW early Wednesday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police say the Burlington and Niagara detachments had multiple people call in to report the wrong-way driver at around 2:43 a.m.

Officers say the driver was going the wrong way on the QEW in the Toronto-bound lanes from Nikola Tesla Boulevard in Hamilton.

Investigators say they were able to catch up to the wrong-way vehicle near Christie Street in Grimsby as it continued to drive Fort Erie-bound in the Toronto-bound lanes.

A Burlington officer was able to get the driver to turn around, before a second OPP officer from Niagara was able to stop the vehicle near Casablanca Boulevard.

Police have charged 54-year-old Carolann Tost from Hamilton with multiple offences, including dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and for driving without a licence.

Tost was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at a St. Catharines courthouse on Mar. 17, 2025.
