Ontario to double fine for long-term care offences

The provincial government has introduced legislation it says will ramp up the accountability of long-term care operators and improve care for residents. One of the main highlights is the doubling of the maximum fines for repeat long-term care offences. That means a maximum of $1,000,000 for corporations and $400,000 for individuals. It would also prohibit convicted rule-breakers from working in the sector. Opposition parties say the legislation doesn’t go far enough to improve the system. Kelly Botello interviewed Minister Rod Phillips about the new legislation.
