Ontario is reporting 587 new COVID-19 cases Thursday and six new deaths related to the virus.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says 423 of the cases are in individuals who are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status and 164 are in fully vaccinated individuals.

The data is based on 37,057 tests completed on the previous day.

The province says 37,333 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine were administered in the last 24-hour period for a total of more than 21.9 million.

Elliott says 86.7 per cent of Ontarians aged 12 and older have received one dose and 81.8 per cent have two doses.

She says 279 people are currently in hospital due to COVID-19. Of those in hospital, 229 are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status and 50 are fully vaccinated.

There are currently 149 patients in intensive care with COVID-related critical illnesses and 102 on ventilators.

Of the province’s 626 long-term care homes, at least 13 are in an outbreak including Macassa Lodge in Hamilton, Maple Park Lodge in Fort Erie and R. H. Lawson Eventide Home in Niagara Falls.

An active COVID-19 outbreak indicates that the home has at least one lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 (in resident or staff) and the local public health unit or the home has declared an outbreak.
