Ontario reports 478 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, including 22 deaths

Ontario is reporting 478 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, bringing the provincial tally to 6,237.

The total number includes 2,574 resolved cases, which is about 40 per cent of cases in the province.

There are currently 673 patients in hospital, with 260 in the intensive care unit and 217 of those people on a ventilator to assist with breathing.

Just over 94,000 COVID-19 tests have been completed and about 1,500 cases are still under investigation.

Outbreaks have been declared at four more long-term care homes, bringing the total number to 73.

The province says 22 people have died as a result of the virus since the last report was released Thursday.

There have been a total of 222 deaths in the province so far. As of Thursday, 506 people across the country have died from COVID-19.

As of Thursday, Hamilton is reporting 206 cases, Halton Region has 249 and Niagara Region has 189.
