Ontario is reporting 2,998 cases of COVID-19 and 100 new deaths, but nearly half of those deaths are part of a data cleanup from the Middlesex-London public health unit.

Health officials say 46 deaths included in Friday’s numbers were previously unreported and occurred “earlier in the pandemic.”

The death toll is now 5,289 people with about 59 per cent of those deaths reported in residents of long-term care.

The results come as the province completed 76,472 tests.
