Ontario reports 13,578 new COVID-19 cases Monday
Ontario is reporting more than 13,000 new cases of COVID-19 Monday as the government is expected to announce stricter safety measures to help blunt the spread of the Omicron variant.
The province says there were 13,578 COVID-19 cases recorded over the last 24 hours, down from 16,714 cases on Sunday.
The data on the provincial reporting website has not been updated, however, Health Minister Christine Elliott says there are 1,232 people in hospital with COVID-19 and 248 patients in intensive care.
The seven-day rolling average of COVID-19-related patients in am intensive care unit is 210.
The province says a total of more than 27.4 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered.
Elliott says 90.8 per cent of Ontarians aged 12 and older have received one dose and 88.2 per cent have two doses.
Many local municipalities are not be updating their COVID-19 dashboards on Jan. 3 as offices are closed due to the Jan. 1 statutory holiday.
