Ontario reports 1,092 COVID-19 cases, death toll surpasses 7,100

Ontario reported 1,092 cases of COVID-19 and 10 deaths on Thursday, as we hit the one-year mark of the pandemic.

The province administered another 40,610 vaccine doses, for a total of 1,019,407 doses given.

There are 281,714 people in the province who are fully vaccinated.

The daily case count comes as the province completed 60,619 tests.

Another 1,110 cases have been marked as resolved.

Hamilton

  • 11,032 total cases — up 56 from Wednesday
  • 10,109 resolved cases
  • 454 active cases
  • 49 in hospital
  • 291 deaths  — up two from Wednesday
  • 51,616 vaccine doses given

Halton

  • 9,914 total cases — up 31 from Wednesday
  • 9,421 resolved cases
  • 295 active cases
  • 18 in hospital
  • 198 deaths
  • 182 total variant cases

Niagara

  • 8,837 total cases — up 27 from Wednesday
  • 8,235 resolved cases
  • 231 active cases
  • 6 in hospital
  • 371 deaths — up two from Wednesday
  • 12,534 vaccine doses given

Brant

  • 1,562 total cases — up 15 from Wednesday
  • 1,491 resolved cases
  • 59 active cases
  • 12 deaths
  • 2 in hospital
  • 12,953 vaccine doses given; 2,548 people fully vaccinated

Haldimand-Norfolk

  • 1,479 total cases — up six from Wednesday
  • 1,394 resolved cases
  • 41 active cases
  • 39 deaths
  • 10,555 vaccine doses given; 1,581 people fully vaccinated

Six Nations

  • 401 total cases
  • 358 resolved cases
  • 38 active cases
  • 5 in hospital
  • 5 deaths

There are now 956 cases of the B.1.1.7 lineage of the virus, first reported in the U.K. That’s up from the 908 cases reported on Wednesday.

Cases of the B.1.351 strain, first reported in South Africa, is up by two to 41 cases.

There are now 28 cases of the P.1 strain first reported in Brazil.

There are 680 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 across the province. There are 277 in intensive care, with 184 on ventilators.
