Ontario to proceed with bear hunt

Ontario is going ahead with a controversial pilot project that will allow residents to hunt bears this spring.

The pilot will start on May 1 and will run for six weeks in eight wildlife areas known for having the most public safety incidents involving the animals.

The government says they are trying to cut down the number of emergency calls and instances of police having to shoot bears.

Animal activist and former TV host Bob Barker has slammed the bear hunt as unneccessary and barbaric.

More details will be released later this month.
