Ontario’s police watchdog say a man in Windsor is dead after police shot him following an alleged altercation with another man Friday night.
The Special Investigations Unit says Windsor police were called to Thornberry Crescent and Roseville Garden Drive around 6:30 p.m. for a report of man with a knife involved in an altercation with another man.
The SIU says when officers arrived, they found an injured man and the man with the knife had run away from the scene.
The agency says officers found the man with the knife and deployed an energy weapon — also known as a Taser or stun gun — and shot their firearms at him.
It says the man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The SIU says four investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case, and an autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.
