People living in central Hamilton are afraid that a shooting that left a 15 year old boy in hospital and a car arson are gang related. Family said he was shot in the shoulder and will be okay but the shooter is still on the loose.

Then around 3am a car that was parked on Mary street just off Cannon was torched. Police can’t confirm whether this was connected with the shooting.

This isn’t the first time in the past month that this street has seen some action. On Boxing day, multiple shots were fired into a home and just over two weeks later, the house next door was also sprayed with gunfire. The torched car was parked in front of both homes.

While some long-time residents aren’t overly concerned, others say there’s a gang problem where members are mainly made up of boys who are barely through high-school.

The victim uses a fake name on Facebook that’s attributed to the youth gang ‘BNA’ or ‘Black Native Association.’

14-year old Jesse Clarke was stabbed to death almost three years ago. During his murder trial, an agreed statement of facts points out that the group he was with had loose ties to the BNA gang.

Police couldn’t give us an update on the shooting or the arson and a youth group in the area was also unable to comment until they consulted with their board.
