Conservation area welcomes scattering ashes

A newly posted sign at Bronte Creek Park in Oakville tells the public they’re allowed to scatter their loved one’s ashes on both land and water.

The sign is posted near the popular “Half Moon Valley Trail” and is the first of its kind in Ontario.

While you don’t need consent from the park officials to scatter ashes, Ontario Parks recommends visitors looking to scatter ashes contact the park in advance and do so away from public areas.

For those who disagree or are unsure of the idea of spreading ashes in parks like Bronte Creek, you may be surprised to know that scattering cremated remains has been legal since 2009.
