No one injured after driver crashes into Hamilton’s Sunnyside Grill, flees scene

Hamilton police say a vehicle was driven into a building on the west Mountain Thursday morning — narrowly missing the front of a restaurant.

It happened around 11:30 a.m. at Sunnyside Grill on Upper Paradise Road, just up the street from St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School.

Officers say a black GMC Terrain struck a pillar and knocked down the stone facade above the grill. The driver then fled the scene on foot before being stopped by police.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

The identity of the driver has not been revealed but police say he is facing charges under the Highway Traffic Act.

“The driver was not the owner of the vehicle, however, we’re still working through whether or not the owner did provide consent to the driver to have this vehicle,” said police spokesman Trevor McKenna.
