No one injured after alleged impaired driver crashes SUV into Welland home

A Niagara Falls man is facing impaired driving charges after he allegedly crashed an SUV into a home in Welland on Sunday night.

It happened around 9:15 p.m. at a home in the area of East Main Street and Golden Boulevard West.

When Niagara police arrived at the scene, they found a black 2015 Jeep Compass fully crashed into a single-storey home.

The driver of the vehicle ran away from the scene but was caught nearby.

Fortunately, the people inside the home and the driver were not injured.

Ashdon Wooldridge, 27, was arrested and charged with five offences, including impaired operation of a conveyance and dangerous operation.

Wooldridge remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing Monday at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

Police say the vehicle remains lodged in the home pending an evaluation from a structural engineer.
