A former Hamilton Police inspector will not be going to jail for stealing almost $60,000.

The first 18 months of Rick Wills’ sentence will be spent under house arrest.
Wills resigned from the Hamilton force in 2008.
He faced 54 fraud charges for thefts from 1998 to 2006.
Court heard that over that time Wills took money seized in drug busts and put it into his personal bank account.
His defence was that he was giving the money to several charities – but there was no evidence of that in court.
Wills has repaid the stolen money.

His lawyer, John Rosen, suggests Wills suffers from a mental illness.
