For the first time in more than 40 years there won’t be a Canadian team in the NHL playoffs and it’s not just disappointing for fans, it’s bad for business.

The phenomenon of a playoff season without a Canadian team means a lot less business for sports bars.
“You get into the Stanley Cup finals you will get some people in for it you always do but for the most part for this year it’s not non existent.”

Retailers of team jerseys will also miss out on the extra sales from playoff fever.
“Playoff times we sell 25-35% more than the regular season.”

It’s only the second time this has happened in NHL history. The last time the NHL post-season was an all-American-team affair was in 1970. The Ottawa Senators were the last Canadian team to be eliminated on Wednesday night.

These businesses are now looking forward to baseball season and hoping for a repeat of last year.
