Niagara police seek suspect in sexual assault investigation

Niagara police are looking to identify a suspect in a sexual assault investigation in St. Catharines.

On March 15, police responded to a local hospital regarding a sexual assault investigation. Officers spoke with a woman who said she met a man on a social media networking app. The man was invited into her room located at DeCew Residence associated to Brock University.

While inside the room, police say an interaction consisting of an alleged sexual assault took place. The woman sustained no physical injuries.

Police are now looking to identify the man. He is described as South Asian, 5’10” tall, 170 lbs, black hair, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, grey track pants and white shoes. He is believed to have left the scene driving a dark coloured four-door BMW.

Detectives say they have learned the man’s name or nick name may be “Zain” and that he may live in the Greater Toronto Area.

Police say they believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no known threat to public safety. Brock University have also worked to provide support services to the victim over the course of the investigation.
