Niagara police say two officers suffered minor injuries after responding to a family dispute call in Fort Erie.
It happened around 8 p.m. on Monday in the area of Central Ave. and Bertie St.
Officers arrived on scene and spoke with a man in his 60s who said he had been drinking with his adult son during the day when an argument led to a physical altercation.
The man claimed his son headbutted him in the face, causing minor injuries.
Police say officers approached the home and a man suddenly charged out from the front door striking an officer and causing them to fall from the porch.
“Officers on scene then attempted to arrest the man for the initial assault and the assault on the police officer,” said police in a news release. “The man was struggling violently. While officers were subduing him, he bit an officer on the leg.”
Both officers suffered minor injuries but the officer who was bit was taken to hospital for treatment.
A 36-year-old Fort Erie man has been arrested and charged with assault and two counts of assault a peace officer.
Police are not releasing the name of the arrested man to protect the identity of the victim.
