Niagara police arrest man in St. Catharines armed with a handgun

Niagara police arrested an armed man from Thorold Tuesday morning in St. Catharines and have charged him with multiple firearm offences.

Officers say they attended the area of Tasker and Queenston streets at around 9:25 a.m. in response to reports of an armed person in the area.

Police say an investigation revealed a man was in the area who was in possession of a loaded handgun.

Niagara Regional Police Services say they were able to identify the man.

When officers approached the man to place him under arrest, the man allegedly reached for his handgun that was concealed in his waistband.

Police were able to arrest the man safely, and executed a search warrant in the area of Clara and Taylor streets in Thorold.

Detectives seized as part of the search warrant a handgun, $1,993 in Canadian currency, and around 416.1 grams of suspected fentanyl.

Officers have arrested 18-year-old Codee Lamure-Vanduzen from Thorold and have charged him with multiple firearm offences.

Some offences include possessing a firearm without holding a license, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and possessing a schedule I substance – fentanyl.

Lamure-Vanduzen was held in custody and is scheduled to appear at a bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse on Wednesday.
