Niagara police arrest local man after reports of shooting in Fort Erie

Niagara police arrested a Fort Erie man Sunday in connection with a shooting in the area of Niagara Boulevard and John Street.

Officers say officers responded to reports of a shooting at around 2:25 a.m. where upon arriving in the area they found a bullet casing.

Investigators determined that two men were allegedly involved in an altercation and that the people involved fled the scene when officers arrived.

They say no one was injured in the incident.

Later that evening at around 7:45 p.m., officers located a suspect vehicle and after a traffic stop, arrested 28-year-old Samuel Sawyer.

They charged Sawyer with offences including carrying a concealed weapon, discharging a firearm being reckless as to the life and safety of others, and for possessing a restricted firearm while knowingly not holding a license.

Sawyer remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse Monday.
