Niagara Falls NYE concert postponed due to new COVID-19 restrictions
A New Year’s Eve concert in Niagara Falls has been postponed after the province implemented new restrictions on spectator capacity limits.
The concert was set to take place on Dec. 31 at the Niagara Falls Convention Centre and feature performances by Blue Rodeo, Serena Ryder and Crown Lands.
“We are working with the bands to reschedule and will announce the new concert date as soon as possible,” said President and General Manager of the Niagara Falls Convention Centre, Noel Buckley in a news release.
The venue says all tickets purchased for the concert will be valid for the new date. Refunds will also be available once a date is confirmed.
On Thursday, Ontario announced updated restrictions and guidelines to combat the highly-transmissible Omicron variant.
The province restricted spectator capacity to 50 per cent of the usual seating capacity or 1,000 people, whichever is less, in buildings used for sports and recreational fitness activities, concert venues, and theatres.
The city of Mississauga recently announced the cancellation of its New Year’s Eve fireworks show as Omicron cases continue to soar.
Niagara Falls Tourism says the firework displays over the Falls will take place on Dec. 31 at 9 p.m. and midnight as well as on Jan. 1 at 10 p.m.
