Niagara blitz cracks down on distracted drivers

Niagara Regional Police are cracking down on distracted drivers.
A 2 hour blitz this morning in Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake saw charges laid against 24 drivers for talking on their phones. The fine is $280, but it didn’t seem to deter many from using their phones while driving today.
Sergeant Dave Brennan says it’s a problem they can’t stress enough.
“Well this is typically one of the busier times of day and people are off to work, off to school, getting the day started. And I seems that more than a few drivers want to take care of a few other things other than just driving that include multi-tasking on the phone and that’s just not acceptable.”
Distracted driving has now surpassed impaired driving in Ontario. Last year in Ontario 14,000 collisions were caused by distracted driving, compared to 2,000 caused by impaired driving.
