Natural gas leak and fire near McMaster

Emergency crews are responding to a natural gas leak and second-degree fire at Main Street West and Emerson Road in Hamilton.

Police say construction crews struck a gas line, which caused a hydro pole to catch fire.

No injuries have been reported, but Main Street has been shut down in both directions between Cootes Drive and Dalewood Avenue.

Nearby homes and businesses have been evacuated and access to McMaster hospital is also closed at Main Street West.
