National Drowning Prevention Week

With summer in full swing, backyard pools are open and children are anxious to play in the water. A four year old girl in Brantford drowned in the family’s backyard pool on Saturday July 18th just as National Drowning Prevention week begins.
Children should be taught water safety and take swimming lessons according to The World Health Organization. Also, according the the Life Saving Society of Canada drowning is the second leading cause of preventable death in children under the age of 10.
