Multiple cats dead after early morning Hamilton house fire

Several cats are dead after a fire tore through a Hamilton home in the Landsdale neighbourhood early Thursday morning.

The call came in just before 4 a.m. for a fire at a home on Evans Street between Victoria Avenue North and East Avenue North.

Platoon Chief Stan Double says his crew had the fire under control within minutes of arriving at the scene, and the single homeowner was not injured.

Double says the fire is suspected to be caused by an electrical issue, with damages estimated at around $250,000.

Victoria Avenue North was closed between Wilson Street and Evans Street but it has since reopened.
