More Canadians could soon be leaving Gaza through Rafah border

More Canadians could soon be leaving Gaza after their names appeared in the latest documents published by Gaza’s General Authority of Crossings and Borders.
The document released Wednesday showed 40 names listed under Canada, with many of these individuals holding dual citizenship.
Other countries that had citizens listed include the United States, Ukraine, Romania, Germany and the Philippines.
On Tuesday the Canadian government confirmed that 75 people with connections to Canada left the Palestinian territory through the border with Egypt.
Global Affairs Canada says given the fluid and unpredictable nature of the situation, it is unable to determine exactly when or how many people can or will cross the border each day.
The agency says that Canadian officials welcomed those who have crossed the border and facilitated their transportation to Cairo.

The department said in a statement Monday that the Israeli military assured the government that the more than 400 Canadians in Gaza would be able to cross “in the coming days.”
The breakthrough of crossing Tuesday came after Canada had told its citizens trapped that they would be allowed out over the weekend prior to a delay due to attacks by Israel that closed the Rafah crossing until Monday.
Those who cross into Egypt will be allowed to stay for a maximum of three days, with people holding a connection to Canada receiving aid with accommodation, food and basic necessities, according to Global Affairs.
“Canada does not determine when or how many persons can cross each day,” the department said in a late afternoon statement on Tuesday.
“As the situation is quite fluid and unpredictable, Canadians should be prepared for significant delays at the Rafah border.”
