The Monuments Men

George Clooney returns to the director’s chair with The Monuments Men. The story follows a group of art historians, architects, and artists sent on a mission to save historic pieces of art during the end of WWII. Clooney leads the ensemble cast that stars Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville, and Cate Blanchett.

While The Monuments Men looks like a war film, Clooney wanted it to have more of a heist kind of vibe. It is estimated that over the course of WWII, nearly 20% of the art in Europe was plundered by the Nazi regime, so the real life Monuments Men had to go into wartime Germany, steal it all back, and return it to its rightful owners. Clooney and his production partner Grant Heslov have a long history together, teaming up to write and produce films like Good Night and Good Luck, Ides of March, and Men Who Stare At Goats.
