Mixed predictions come out of Groundhog Day celebrations

Monday is Groundhog Day, meaning it’s time we learn if our rodent friends think spring is in sight or if there is more winter on the way.

As the folktale goes, if the groundhog does not see their shadow then early spring but if they do see their shadow, then it’s time to prepare for six more weeks of winter.

Here is our full list of predictions:

• Wiarton Willie has predicted an early spring;
• Shubenacadie Sam had to stay in her burrow due to extreme weather, so she is predicting an early spring;
• And our crustacean friend Lucy the Lobster also did not see her shadow.

In Punxsutawney, Pa. they do things a little differently, Phil was pulled out of his hole after a morning full of celebrations. He is made to pick between two scrolls and the one he chose is the one calling for six more weeks of winter.
