A missing person case is now a homicide investigation after a local man was found dead in Hamilton Harbour on Friday.
Hamilton police have confirmed with CHCH News that the killing is related to a body that was found near the shoreline of Pier 16 around 8 a.m. on May 29, close to Stelco Hamilton Works at 386 Wilcox St.
Police deemed the discovery “suspicious” the same day.
The deceased man is Marcin Sydor, 48, of Hamilton, who was reported missing to police on April 27. The post-mortem examination determined that the death was the result of a homicide.

Sydor — known as ‘Martin’ to friends and family — was last seen in Hamilton on April 21 driving a black 2014 Volkswagen Jetta wagon with tinted windows and Ontario licence plate DFBY 071. The vehicle belonged to a family member.
Police say the details of his death will not be released at this time and that the victim did not appear to have any connection to Stelco.
A police spokesperson confirmed that a Stelco employee came across the body and that Sydor “was known” to police, though they would not elaborate on the subject.
In a Monday morning press conference, Hamilton police appealed to the public to come forward with any leads or tips that may assist the investigation, including the whereabouts of the vehicle Sydor was driving.
“His disappearance was out of character and inconsistent with his usual behaviour,” the spokesperson said.
Police added that it was a missing person’s case until Friday and that “the injuries and the manner that the body was found” were indications that suspicious activity was involved. The post-mortem examination found that the death was the result of a homicide.
