Milton man dies after being pulled from Lake Erie at Sherkston Shores
A 50-year-old man from Milton has died after being pulled from Lake Erie at a Port Colborne beach on Monday.
Niagara police say they received reports of a possible drowning at Sun Retreats Sherkston Shores on Empire Road around 1:15 p.m.
Investigators determined the man had gone swimming in the lake when he became distressed, disappeared below the water and didn’t resurface.
A bystander attempted to help the man but was not able to get him out of the water.

Emergency responders were able to locate the victim with the help of a rescue helicopter that had been in Toronto for an air show.
When recovered, he was found to be in critical condition and taken to a local hospital where attempts to resuscitate him would be made. Ultimately he was pronounced deceased in hospital.
Officers say that wind and wave conditions on the lake were strong at the time of the incident.
Detectives are investigating, however foul play is not suspected at this time.
