Mike Schreiner to remain Ontario’s Green leader after plea from Liberals
Mike Schreiner says he will remain the leader of Ontario’s Green Party after considering a plea from a group of Liberals to run for leadership of their party.
Since Steven Del Duca stepped down as the Liberal leader last year, the party has been without a permanent leader after a second consecutive election loss.
A public letter was released from a group of Liberals last month asking Schreiner to join their party.
In a statement released Tuesday, Schreiner says he has taken the time to consult his Guelph constituents and people across Ontario.

“I’ve asked myself and others how I can best make a positive difference in building the Ontario we truly want,” he said.
“The answer for me is as the leader of the Ontario Green Party.”
In this statement, Schreiner alludes to the significance of working together to build and care for a climate-ready province to prioritize the planet and people.
Other Liberal officials have openly said they are interested in running for the top job, including MP and former Ontario cabinet minister Yasir Naqvi, MP Nathaniel Erksine-Smith and current Ontario Liberal caucus member Ted Hsu.
