Mike Pence and Kamala Harris face off in vice-presidential debate

The first and only vice-presidential debate of the U.S. election took place Wednesday night in Salt Lake City.

Plexiglass shields and physical distancing separated Republican Mike Pence from Democrat Kamala Harris.

COVID-19 and the current administration’s response to it was a hot topic.

Harris called it “the greatest failure of any presidential administration.”

Pence leads the Trump administration’s coronavirus task force and vigorously defended its response to COVID-19.

More than 210,000 Americans have died from the virus.

The showdown was a markedly different debate in style and substance from the spectacle of the first presidential debate.

Both sidestepped difficult questions.

Pence refused to say if climate change was an existential threat or whether Donald Trump would accept the election results should he lose on Nov. 3.

Harris declined to say whether Joe Biden would push to expand the number of justices on the Supreme Court.
