Metrolinx releases GO Transit holiday schedule, free New Years Eve rides

Metrolinx has released an updated schedule for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Eve.

On Dec. 24, Metrolinx is adding extra service on the Milton and Richmond Hill lines from Union Station.

• Milton Line: Two additional trips have been added and will depart Union Station at 1:40 p.m. and 2:40 p.m.
• Richmond Hill: An additional trip has been added and will depart Union Station at 2:45 p.m.

Beginning Jan. 3, Metrolinx will be adjusting GO bus schedules on routes 16, 17, 21, 29, 30, 31, 33, 40, 47, 56 and 71 to better reflect actual travel times.

The transportation agency says there will be more weekday trips on routes 29 and 31 due to increased demand.

Starting Jan. 3, Metrolinx will be introducing new GO bus route options “40M” and “40H” that extend to serve Humber Polytechnic North Campus and connect to the new Finch West LRT. Routes 54 and 66 will be removed.

Free GO Transit and UP Express service on New Year’s Eve

Metrolinx will be offering complimentary service on GO Transit and UP Express on New Year’s Eve.

Starting at 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, customers can ride on any GO train or GO bus for free until 8 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

UP Express will also be free to all customers on New Year’s Eve from 7 p.m. until end of service.

In addition, GO Transit and UP Express will run extra late evening trips on every line.

• • • Lakeshore West: Extra late-night trips on Dec. 31. Last train leaves Union Station at 7:47 a.m.
    • Lakeshore East: Extra late-night trips on Dec. 31. Last train leaves Union Station at 7:20 a.m.
    • Kitchener Line: Extra late-night trips on Dec. 31. Last train leaves Union Station at 6:34 a.m.
    • Stouffville Line: Additional late-night trips on Dec. 31. Last train leaves Union Station at 4:00 a.m.
    • Barrie Line: Additional late-night trips on Dec. 31. Last train leaves Union Station at 3:54 a.m.
    • Richmond Hill Line: Additional evening trip arriving into Union Station on Dec. 31. Last train leaves Union Station at 1:15 a.m.
    • Milton Line: Additional evening trips arriving into Union Station on Dec. 31. Last train leaves Union Station at 2:55 a.m.
    • UP Express: Late-night trains from Union Station. Special trains will be departing every 30 minutes, starting at 1:15 a.m.  Last train leaves Union Station at 3:45 a.m.

Riders are encouraged to continue tapping on and off with their PRESTO card, but they will not be charged.

Customers are encouraged to check schedules ahead of time and sign up for On the GO Alerts to receive real time updates about trip schedules, delays or disruptions.
