McMaster and School Board reach agreement

McMaster University and the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board reached an agreement regarding the sale of the current Board of Education building in downtown Hamilton.

Talks were being aggressively pursued by both sides, due to time restrictions, for the relocation of school board staff so that McMaster could proceed with its plan for a downtown health campus.

The agreement will see school board staff temporarily relocated to the Standard Life Building, the Stelco Tower and the Robert Thomson Building while its new facility is being constructed.

McMaster plans to demolish the Board of Education building at the corner of Main and Bay streets to make way for an $85 million health campus. The building is planned to open in 2014 and will allow about 15, 000 residents who are currently without a family doctor to see a physician, as well as serve 4, 000 students and be home to 450 McMaster employees.
