More than 10, 000 participants will take to the the streets in the annual Around the Bay Road Race tomorrow causing traffic disruptions.
The race is the oldest road race in North America, with the first event held in 1894. The race has attracted an elite group of runners throughout its history, including winners of the Boston marathon and the Olympics.
The marquee event is the 30 km race that will take about 8, 000 runners from Hamilton’s downtown core, to the beach strip, into Burlington, up rolling hills – including the infamous “Heartbreak Hill” – and will finish inside Copps Coliseum. There is also a 5 km event that is expected to attract 2, 000 participants.
