Hamilton mayoral candidate Brian McHattie says the city’s economic future depends on skilled workers lured from cities like Toronto.

If elected, McHattie says he’ll focus on attracting skilled workers in the medical, professional and creative industries.

“I think we need to promote Hamilton to a great extent. my job as mayor is to go right across Ontario and talk about the arts, the music, the innovation park, the escarpment, the history of this city, which is a marvelous example of industrial growth in our country.”

“I need to stand with the Calgary mayor, the Edmonton mayor, the B.C. mayors, the whole bunch of them and raise the profile of this city. We need to spend time in Toronto poaching offices and having them come here.”

McHattie says attracting such industries would ease the city’s residential tax burden. The municipal election takes place on October 27th.
