‘Max’s Big Ride’ has raised $50 thousand for research

4 year old Max Sedmihradsky and his dad Andrew have pedalled 600 KM on their bike in the last 11 days. The pair left Ottawa on Fathers Day, bound for their hometown of Hamilton. They averaged about 50 KM a day along the Trans Canada Trail.

“He has been an absolute trouper. He loves it even on our toughest day when we got flooded out and there were tons of deer flies and we had to turn back” says dad Andrew Sedmihradsky.

They’re biking to help fund research and help find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. “About 2 years ago Max was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscualr Dystrophy. It’s a fatal disease. We decided early on it’s something we are going to fight.”

And so far, “Max’s Big Ride” has raised $50 thousand. “It’s been so overwhelming. We have been to small communities like Tweed, they just came out and welcomed us with open arms.”

The bike was donated for their ride. It works the same as a normal bike but has an area for Max to sit in complete with a seatbelt and a cover that goes on to protect him if it rains.

Andrew Sedmihradsky says this is just the start, and after a much needed rest, he’ll be back out on his bike fighting for his son.
